Staff were very enthusiastic,
Neil told us a lot about the environment, the loch and Boleskine

us some
great views of the Loch in the morning. |

Martyn Dowell [Brighouse, GB] on 04/10/2007 (Mature couple)
We stayed in room 8.
This was a large light and airy room very well furnished and fitted out. The
bathroom and shower were excellent.
It was a much better than the room we had in
a 4* hotel in Edinburgh! It had a view of the loch and the hillside beyond. Very
good breakfast!
Nothing!
Overall: Right out in the country with a
beautiful view of the hills on the drive from Fort Augustus and beautiful Loch
views on
the drive to Inverness (both 20-30mins). Lots of walking in the area
(but not well-marked). We saw deer and red squirrel in the woods.
The Falls of
Foyers are spectacular! The restaurant in Foyers House (The Puddin' Race) was
very very very good!
Thanks to Neil and Brenda for a very special break.
Thank you
Martyn
.......................................................
The room were
tastefully done, with a cosy ambience and the view was quite beautiful.
Our room had a
faulty shower drain and it is quite difficult to find the hotel after dark.
Overall: We were a little surprised by
the frosty reception we received by the owners for being late to check in by
a few minutes as we lost our way, and we got rapped on the knuckles for
bringing in food from outside.
Overall : Don't rely on GPS, check in before midnight & leave the pizza in the car...............

"great stay at Foyers"
San Diego Sep 6, 2007
+
nice quiet location and away from the tourist groups in Drumnadrochit /
Inverness, great Loch Ness views,
very basic rooms but clean, wireless internet access although no phone, friendly
outdoor cat "Glenda",
our host was very friendly and helpful, especially on fitting us in for two
extra nights during a very busy
holiday weekend.
+
good restaurant with very good food (dinner /
breakfast) and wide selection of beers, nice homemade desserts too
+
make sure you take a walk down to the falls and up
to the rock ...just ask Neil
-
location may be a bit too isolated for some families, not an issue at all for
us
= not fancy but
good value / host / restaurant, we like the Foyer's area and would definitely stay
here again
N.B. we didn't see a hint of the negative issues some other advisors gave
previously,
we had a great stay and even extended from one night to three total.

"Be Very Caring When Booking"
Sep 16, 2006
Having given 6 days notice of cancellation (due to
illness) we were still charged the FULL amount for our stay.
When i questioned
this with the owner I received a tough luck attitude coupled with rude and aggressive
indifference.
In this day and age flexibility is the key for self organised
holidays - life is too short to spend your money here.
This guest gave 6 days notice of cancellation. Out cancellation policy is clear,7 days notice is
required..................
I may have appeared "rude" on the telephone but it was not my intention,
I simply suggested they avail themselves of one the many insurance policy's
available next time they reserve accommodation.

"Bad mattress, burned breakfast, and uncaring, rude
host"
Riverside, California Aug 23, 2006
By far the worst place we stayed on our trip to
Scotland and for sure the worst bed we have ever had to sleep on.
We had two
rooms, rooms 5 and 6. My son was in room 5 and the bed was alright although the
springs did dig into
your back when you laid down. Our bed in room 6 was so bad
that you could feel every single spring the moment you
laid down. It felt like a
boxed spring rather than a mattress. Bruce went to ask the host what could be
done and he was
very, very rude stating that “this room has been being used
for 200 days and not one person has ever complained”.
We are very, very easy
going and don’t expect much and I cannot believe that we were the only ones to
comment that
the bed was so bad. Anyway, he told us we could leave but he would
charge our credit card anyway since he claimed
there was nothing wrong with the
room (about $140 per room per night = $280). So we decided to live with it and
went
off to the public room to watch a movie in the public room. Then we hauled
my son's comforter off his bed and piled it
onto our bed and we slept on top of
the 2 comforters, making it tolerable. Since we had no comforter, we tried to
turn
the steam heater on and found that the hosts had turned the compressor off
late at night, so we also froze.
Breakfast was a disaster. We ordered omelets “well cooked and not runny” and
got omelets that were a very dark shade
of brown – so burned we couldn’t eat
them – and they were runny inside. The toast was cold and the jam in little
packets
like you can get in any restaurant. No fruit or anything special was
offered.
It is a real shame. The place was lovely with nice views of Loch Ness (although
the fog kept us from seeing anything but fog).
The public room had a wonderful
fireplace and leather couches. It has the makings of being a first-rate B &
B but it seems
that the “I don’t care” attitude of the hosts will probably
put them out of business. Maybe this is why they had to close the
restaurant.
Their website is still showing the restaurant OPEN on one page and only mentions
that it is closed when you click
on the link. The fact that they had no dinner
made it hard on us as well as we had planned to eat there (and that is one of
the
reasons we chose them).
Where do I start ? "the bed"
................nothing wrong with it, I had no complaints before or after
this party stayed. They elected to
sleep on a "blanket", why not, our timers turn the heating off at
midnight and on again at 6.00am, not unreasonable in summer,
oil fired central heating no compressors, no
steam..........."froze"........... it was August !.
We probably discussed the possibility of the guests
leaving, I can't remember, but the exchange rate was no way two to one
o I don't
understand $140 per room, I was under pressure............................
The day before this party arrived my wife, best friend
and cook had to be rushed to hospital in
Aberdeen............ I had a "staff" who
did not "do"
mornings. I closed the restaurant, there was no alternative accommodation
available, cooking and serving breakfast
to sixteen guests was an "opportunity".........
next day my daughters arrived, omelettes, hot toast, no problem.........
We still serve jam in "little packets" like
you can get in any restaurant, and kippers with a knob of butter and hot toast,
or slices
of gammon cut off the bone with applewood smoked cheese or ..................
I was a little pressured, not an excuse, but pressured., sorry about the fog.

"Worst experience ever!"
London Jun 12, 2007
We arrived just past 8pm and their restaurant
was closed although the opening hour is until 9pm. When we asked for
where we
can find food the staffs were not friendly and directed us to 2 other hotels’
restaurants which turned out to have
closed as well. When we returned to the
B&B and wanted to have some sandwiches on the terrace we were rudely
shooed
away and told we are not allowed to have our own food in common areas even
though the area was empty and
there were no other guests around. We were tired
and it was almost 9pm but the owner insisted that we take our sandwiches
to
acres of land by the lake. When we complained about the way we were treated the
next morning, they refused to serve us our breakfast and demanded that we leave
the property. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had.
This party of five
arrived just after 8.00pm and requested dinner, as our restaurant was
fully booked I directed them to two other
restaurants in the village. They
returned later with a "take away" and proceeded to eat same at our restaurant tables on the terrace.
I put it to them that eating their own food at
our restaurant tables was not correct and suggested some "picnic
sites" at the Loch side.
Next morning at 8.45am the party
arrived at reception, the events of the
previous evening were recalled at length.
After settling there account they suggested they take
breakfast but unfortunately by this time, breakfast was over and the
kitchen closed.

Cleanliness of room. Friendly staff. Good shower. Great views.
Nothing really although the evening menu was a bit fancy for our taste, so we

"Peace and Quiet"
Co Antrim, Northern Ireland Apr 16, 2007
If you like peace and quiet, walking, excellent food and a
relaxed atmosphere, this is the place. We first stayed here in 2002
whilst touring North Scotland, having booked it 'blind' on-line. Returned in
July 2003. Then in 2006 we stayed for a week at
Easter, and again in October for
4 nights.
The views are stunning, being set on high ground overlooking Loch Ness. There
are various walks to suit all abilities.
Access to the Falls of Foyers is by
fairly steep pathways, but the views are worth it.
Restaurant food is superb, all freshly prepared.
The log stove in the lounge is very welcoming in the colder autumn evenings.
Can't wait to go back.

"BEWARE"
Niagara Falls, ON
Nov 9, 2006
We had booked a room at this hotel in August for 4 nights.
After reading the reviews about the beautiful setting it was in,
we
were excited as we drove there. However trying to actually get there was a
different story, the drive from Fort Augustus
took forever. It was supposedly
only 15-20 minutes away but took at least 45 minutes. The roads are AWFUL even
for Scotland
and the hotel was not well marked at all. Upon arrival the hotel
seemed rundown, after seeing its photos online I was shocked.
By no means were
we expecting a 5 star hotel but I had never seen a hotel in that kind of
condition. Do not let the photos you
may see of this place deceive you. When we
arrived there was no one to be found. We finally came across a gentleman who
informed us he would be with us in a few minutes. About 20 minutes later he
still had not returned so we went to find him again.
He stated that because we
were there earlier than the check in-time, we would have to come back, not even
offering to show us
the room we had booked. We got back into our car and headed
into Inverness, which also took a lot longer than we were advised.
We were definitely
not looking forward to the long ride that we would have back to the
Foyers House later in the day. I will say that
the view was lovely as all the
other reviews have stated, but is situated very high above the loch and is not
as close as some
websites make it seem to be. It would be quite a walk to get to
it.
I remember this party, reserved a twin room, for three
people! they arrived at around 09.30am while we were servicing bedrooms,
some guest's had not yet "checked
out", they went straight onto the terrace, not to reception, I discovered
them...............................
I remember they complained about the roads, that they were too small,
they told me they were used to six lane highways, I offered
coffee on the terrace until
the bedrooms were ready but they elected to drive to
Inverness...................I never saw them again !
They telephoned later in the day to tell me they
would be staying in Inverness and to cancel their reservation, I told them that
they
would have to pay for the bedroom if I could not resell
............unfortunately
I could not.
"Beware" of Niagara Falls, also complained about the Hotel where they actually stayed.!
"We had not planned to stay at the Clansman hotel,
however the inn we were booked at was so far out of the way and such
a long
drive from anything that we chose not to stay there and look for another place.
We found the Clansman on the other
side of the Loch, closer to Inverness, the
Great Glen and Drummandochit.
We were able to just walk in and luckily get a room for 2 nights but it was at
the back of the hotel and was VERY small for
3 adults. We were quite crammed but
it was comfortable so it was cozy to say the least. Unfortunately though without
a view
of the Loch, which we would have liked. The shower was also extremely
small, barely enough room to turn around."

"Nice experience, great location"
Dec 12, 2006
I stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago and was
pleasantly surprised by it. We didn't book, just stopped there on the off
chance
and luckily they had room available. We had driven up from Glasgow and Fort
William and after a horrendous
experience in Glasgow, every hotel we stayed at
was wonderful.
Our room was in the attic and admittedly we had to carry our bags up ourselves,
but this was due to no lift and a breakdown in communication between the manager
and the Help. The manageress was a bit abrupt (she's Australian) and wouldn't
let us see
the room before we checked in, but this seems normal practice in the
UK still. However, the room was wonderfully spacious with a double bed and two
singles in a little alcove, you could've had a swim in the bathtub and we had an
amazing view down the
hillside and across to Loch Ness. The dinner was good and
so was the wine. We slept like logs in this lovely old-fashioned
hotel and would
probably stay here again.
Thank You

"A Taste of Scotland"
Muir of Ord Scotland Oct 19, 2006
Just returned home after an overnight stay with
friends.Would highly recommend this small hotel for an "away from it all
stay"
The welcome when we arrived gave us a very homely feeling.
The diiner last night could not be faulted. The rooms were spotlessand the bed
very comfy. Breakfast this morning was first class.
The plates and cups were
preheated instead of the usual ice cold which quite often happens.
Would advise anybody that comes here takes hiking footwear and go for a walk
through the woods and enjoy the sight and sound
of the Falls. Give it a try and
you won't be disappointed.
Thank you
